Here's my dad in 1975 when I was my daughter's age. Now he will popup out of the grave as a zombie and give you a raincheck that's good for 30 days.

He had this weird phonological problem that caused him to pronounce two "p"s as "f". But he could prounounce one p just fine. So like "puppet" he would say "puffet" like the first p was no problem but the double p turned into F. and like muppet was "muffet" . i have no idea what the hell that was about.

Did he ever try writing words misspelled and the reading as in pupet or mupet? Or did his brain say "No, I know there are supposed to be 2 of them."

I've worked in a few grocery stores and people there are usually "lifers" - they don't leave. It's boring work to me but my Dad loved it. You will hardly ever see a store manager because they stay in their offices but he was almost always on the floor, facing products and doing meanial stuff but he was out there handling stuff. The stores he managed generaly had high sales, up in top of stores, with low shrink. But the grocery business was not for me.

BTW "Shrink" is mostly employee theft, customer theft, product breakage and product out of date. My son is working for a company that uses AI to determine employee theft. When I was little I remember my dad bringing home a big box full of cash register tapes. They were barely computerized back then, like an IBM mini or something, but everything had paper backup. He'd spend an entire weekend looking at all the transactions for a week on all the register tapes and figure out which employee was stealing. After unwinding one tape it would cover the entire kitchen, and he used to use a power drill to roll the tapes back up. Different world now! :)
