It's not real until there's at least a .deb file to install.

This one only requires node.js:
https://github.com/gbxyz/jrdap
...so I put the executable in /usr/local/bin, installed node.js, ran jrdap --help, and got an error message.

Well, I've never used node.js for anything, so I probably missed something obvious. Back to using whois until they pry it from my cold dead hands.

There's a snap package for debian [oops, ubuntu]. I'm not crazy about snap packages and it's the go version, not icann's rust version. Don't know what differences there are in the different projects and builds, but might be best to just build from source in any case.

Warning: To load an ES module, set "type": "module" in the package.json or use the .mjs extension.

Right. Okay then...

sudo mv /usr/local/bin/jrdap /usr/local/bin/jrdap.mjs

That fixed it -- except that it fails for .ws domains: "Error: Cannot find an RDAP URL for this resource." Oh well, it's not important, I just wanted to see what it does.
