Cato is libertarian or "classical liberal", so the people who think in terms of left vs right get confused or simply decide what they are based on a whatever Cato's position is on the single issue that is most important to them.

Yes some people lose their minds over Free Trade and relaxed immigration/ open borders yet they do not like to be told what to do. Many are big on free speech and free guns but think the government should restrict gay marriage, for example, because I suppose they need the government to protect them from gays. But having a rule that prevents government from restricting gay marriage guarantees individual liberty I think. It's an interesting concept I think that in many other countries such as in Europe, the government grants citizens freedoms and liberties while the difference in the USA has been the citizens grant the government powers. The concept anyway. :) This protectionism, banned books, border "sealing", gender control, etc, are totally big turn-offs.

The Executive Order white paper is interesting I think because it describes the Congress as giving more and more power to the President, by allowing orders to ride without debate in Congress... supposed to be the law makers. Presidents on both sides of the aisle have issued orders starting with George Washington. Only a few have been considered and thrown out by Congress. At the end of the day the Constitution prevails no matter the order.
