Since you are a veteran self-hoster (25+ years), I can give you the "technical reality" answer rather than the marketing one: The days of successfully self-hosting email for critical delivery are effectively over.

The major providers (Gmail, Outlook/Microsoft, Yahoo/AOL) have formed an oligopoly. They trust each other's IP ranges implicitly, and they treat almost everyone else (VPS providers like DigitalOcean, Linode, or residential IPs) as "guilty until proven innocent."

I have heard this from other people. I haven't experienced it myself.

Since I have heard it from other people, it's not surprising that AI has also heard it from other people. Is this evidence that it is true?

I haven't noticed this. I've been self-hosting email on a few different VPS providers for years, and Google et al have always been quite happy to take my messages.

Occasionally I have to jump through a hoop or two, such as with the introduction of mandatory DKIM a year or two back, but I'm not too bothered by that; I'm basically all in favour of raising the bar for spammers, as long as it doesn't affect my own setup - which hasn't happened yet.
