Looks like he did not actually 'cave' to Trump, but agreed to pick up immigrants with their own planes. He did say he objected to how the immigrants were being treated so this was a well meaning compromise probably. And it reportedly costs US$ 5,000 per immigrant to transport on a military C-17 which is 5x more than a commercial first class ticket. If Trump hopes to catch up to Obama's record 5 million deportations sending them on C-17's is likely going to break the bank. Lol.
In my opinion it's a waste of resources to send immigrants to Guantanamo. There are so many questions like can they leave? Why not? How long will they stay? Why are are they being sent there? It makes no financial sense.
