Why are these in the clear, and why do banks use SSN for anything. My card says Not for identification. Banks are obviously dumb and don't care lol. The other thing about SSN is there are 999,999,999 except the first 3 are location issued (although i've read they quit doing that)
So there' 999,999 per issuer. The numbers are not exclusive and they don't wait for a death certificate to issue your number to someone else.
But, age, sex, and name are likely unique when associated to a number that's been reissued numerous times since 1936. Although i read an article once about two Susans of the same age with the same SSN. That was a fluke but not impossible.
