Because of a little thing I call life it has been a while since I have messed with my web development studies. So I spent most of yesterday really getting into learning VS Code, the preferred editor of the class. I spent a while figuring out how to get the editor to talk with github and learning a bunch of other tricks with the editor.

This morning I figured that it might me time for me to build my self a portfolio page, website, or whatever you call it. I wanted to use flexbox and could not for the life of me get it to work. I went back to the course videos and my memory was correct. I had it all typed out correctly. My memory was not as bad as I thought.

But, it still did not work as expected.

As I was rewatching the videos and checking my work vs. the sample I just happened to bump into the solution.

In CSS I identified the container I was trying to "flex" by a class. I forgot to put the class selector on it. Lost an hour and a half of my life because I forgot to put a . in a file.

and people compare it to the "zero" cost of credit cards and government currency, which must utilize zero, according to the nuts against bitcoin.

you know, like printing dollars and the banks and all the credit card companies with all the employees, that costs nothing at all. but Bitcoin, well that costs a fortune and burns down all the trees and blasts carbon dioxide into the air. So use government issued money because it's free.

Ok, I started using TOR occasionally back before TOR was even at the 1.0 stage. It is kind of messy to use sometimes, like when you need to see a site that uses cloudflare or whatever it is called.

When I go back to the world on Tuesday my life will pretty much be online so I am looking at getting a VPN and running every device through said VPN.

But I am befuddled by all the information about VPNs out on the Innertubez.

Which VPN do you use and why?

For your info my devices run Debian or Ubuntu, Windows 11, and Android 12.

I've been using PIA for years. I must have had a decent reason to pick it back when I did, but I couldn't tell you with any certainty now. It has clients for all your platforms.

In the US the stereotype for 'Mexican Music' is that crazy polka music. I lived in Mexico for a whole year and never anybody playing that shit one time. I'd say actual "mexican" music is more like bluegrass. :)

Some of the best I have heard comes from The Czech Republic and another good source is Norway.

EDIT: NOT Norway (which may have a bluegrass tradition, I don't know) but FINLAND. The folks I found look just like throwbacks to the hillbillies of Appalachia

@Zephan No the xmpp link doesn't work. Firstly, it is not a real address. I don't use the jabber.org account as it is flooded with spam and I do not have another account anywhere. Secondly, not all browsers read all URIs. I am guessing that zap can not read the URI for an XMPP account. It is ok, it works with a normal webpage and most browsers out there.

This next idea is probably not "technically" a "DM" but I guess you could also set up a privacy group with just the intended recipient in it. The lock will show which means it is private but the envelope will not which means it is not direct. I reckon it would be as private as anything else though the recipient would have no idea who was in the group.

The same is true if you select multiple people from the ACL, which is why I usually use @! for DMs. That way, everybody involved knows who else has access.

So many years ago I found a collection of episodes of The Beverly Hillbillies that whoever posted them on archive.org claimed were in the #PublicDomain. I got all excited and posted about it somewhere. @Linux Walt Alt (@lnxw37a2) {3EB165E0-5BB1-45D2-9E7D-93B31821F864} reminded me to be a grown up and not believe everything that I read on archive.

Fast forward a few years and I have discovered that 55 episodes of The Beverly Hillbillies are, in fact, public domain. The entire first season and 19 episodes of the second season ended up there. At the time for their copyright renewal came up the copyright laws in the US were changing and somehow these episodes fell in the cracks and are now available to us.
